Chuck Renslow 1929-2017

Renslow 2024-04-01_06-12-51We learned yesterday of the death of Chuck Renslow.  A friend and contemporary of Bob Mizer, Chuck was a larger than life part of gay history. He owned gay businesses in Chicago in the 1950s and 60s when owning gay businesses wasn’t popular. He was a photographer, club owner, publisher, politician and events producer. Prosecuted on a number of occasions, Chuck always won. He pushed the boundaries of the law for all of us.

His legacy will live on in his art, in the International Mr. Leather competition which he founded in 1979, and in the Leather Archives & Museum which he co-founded in 1991.

Rest well knowing you made a difference in the lives of so many.
